NCAA Bowl Schedule & Picks

The bowl season is upon us. There are a total of 32 bowl games. There are 4 key factors when picking bowl games. Consider what conference the team is from, the location of the game, the team's past bowl success/failures and the current coaching situation. There are several teams with interim coaches, others whose coach is coaching his last game and some whose coach is seeking other jobs.

12/20/07-Pointsetta Bowl: (San Diego) Utah (-9) vs Navy-
Navy's coach has already announced that he is headed to GT. Utah has gone 7-1 since starting 1-3. Navy can't stop anyone other than Army. In their 4 losses, Navy has yielded178 points (45.6 ppg). They also gave up 43 to Duke, 45 to Pitt and 62 to North Texas. Utah has won 6 straight bowl games.

12/21/07- New Orleans Bowl: Memphis (+2.5) vs. Fla. Atlantic-
The CUSA has won 3 of the last 4 New Orleans Bowl games against the Sun Belt. Tigers have won 5 of 6 since starting 2-4.

12/22/07- PapaJohns.com Bowl (Birmingham, Ala): Cincy (-11) vs. S.Miss-
The Big East went 5-0 in bowl games last year. CUSA went 1-3. Cincy only lost 3 games and that was by a total of 16 points. S. Miss doesn't have their coach anymore either.

12/22/07- New Mexico Bowl: New Mexico (-3) vs. Nevada-
Both teams went 0-3 against bowl teams this year. New Mexico was 5-1 at home and that's where this one is. Plus, its hard to take a 6-6 WAC team.

12/22/07- Las Vegas Bowl: BYU (-6.5) vs. UCLA-
UCLA beat BYU(at UCLA) 27-17 the first time around. At that time, UCLA was ranked 13 and looking at a promising season. Since, they've lost 6 of 10 and their coach has been fired. My guess is the BYU players can behave much better in Las Vegas than UCLA. BYU beat Oregon in last year's Las Vegas Bowl.

12/23/07- Hawaii Bowl: Boise St. (-10.5) vs. E.Caro-
CUSA sucks and so does this Carolina. Boise has the bowl experience and the Hawaii fans will cheer for the WAC team.

12/26/07- Motor City Bowl (Detroit): Purdue (-9) vs. Central Michigan.
The Boilermakers won the first meeting 45-22 despite 5 turnovers and it wasn't even as close as the score indicates. Purdue led 31-0 at halftime.

12/27/07- Holiday Bowl (SD): Texas (-2.5) vs. Arizona St.-
Love it. Az St. is soft and they fade down the stretch every year.

12/28/07- Champs Sports Bowl (Orlando): Michigan St. (+3.5) vs. Boston College-
BC was one of this season's most overrated. Yes, Matt Ryan is a 1st round pick, but BC has crappy wideouts and struggles to run the ball.

12/28/07- Texas Bowl (Houston): TCU (-3.5) vs. Houston-
The favorite is 4-0-1 in the last 5 Texas Bowls. TCU has won 3 of 4 and covered 4 in a row. Hou is 0-6 as dogs of 3.5 to 10

12/28/07- Emerald Bowl (San Fran) Oregon St. (-5.0) vs. Maryland-
OSU has been playing great down the stretch (6-1 in their last 7). Md. hasnt played great all season and was only 3-5 in the ACC.

12/29/07- Meineke Car Care Bowl (Charlotte, NC) Wake Forest (-3) vs. Connecticut-
Basically a home game for Wake. UConn got walloped in 2 of their last 3. Wake beat UConn 24-13 @ UConn last season

12/29/07- Liberty Bowl (Memphis): Mississippi St. (+3) vs. Central Florida-
C Fla won an awful CUSA, but Ole Miss qualified out of the best conference in the country.

12/29/07- Alamo Bowl (San Antonio): Texas A&M (+5.5) vs. Penn St. -
Neither team has beaten anyone good this season. The Big 12 is slightly better than the Big 10 and the game is being played in Texas. The Big 10 went 2-5 in bowl games last year.

12/30/07- Independence Bowl (Shreveport, La.): Alabama (-3.5) vs. Colorado-
As much as I hate Nick Saban, I gotta go with the Tide. Both teams finished 6-6, but Bama showed a lot more promise and was in the top 25 in November. Colo. did have a stunning win over OK, but the Tide just have more speed and more talent.

12/31/07- Armed Forces Bowl (Fort Worth, Texas): Air Force (+3.5) vs. California-
I am not picking against Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl. Cal has lost 6 of 7 since starting 5-0.

12/31/07- Sun Bowl (El Paso, Texas): South Florida (-6.5) vs. Oregon-
Oregon was 8-1 and ranked #2. Then, Dennis Dixon hurt his knee and they are 0-3 since. S. Fla was 6-0 and ranked #2 before they lost 3 in a row. They have righted the ship, winning three in a row during which they averaged 48 ppg. Oregon is simply lost at the QB postion right now.

12/31/07- Humanitarian Bowl (Boise, Idaho): Fresno St. (+4.5) vs. Georgia Tech
Tough call. Fresno hasn't beaten anybody good, but all 4 of their losses were to quality teams. GTech coach Chan Gailey is on the way out. It's hard to see Tech being excited to go to Boise and play a WAC team.

12/31/07- Music City Bowl (Nashville): Kentucky (-3) vs. Florida St.-
Love Kentucky in this one. Andre Woodson is far and away the best player on the field. Fla. St. hasn't had a good season in a long time and this year was no different (7-5). Kentucky lost 5 of thier last 7, so the month off was huge for them. Hopefully, they will bounce back.

12/31/07- Insight Bowl (Arizona): Oklahoma St. (-4.5) vs. Indiana-
The Big 10 just isn't that good and Indiana didn't even finish with a winning conference record (3-5).

12/31/07- Chick-fil-a Bowl (Atlanta): Auburn (+2) vs. Clemson-
Clemson is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 bowl games. Since starting 1-2, Auburn has gone 7-2 with losses at Georgia and at LSU. They also went to Florida and won.

1/1/08- Outback Bowl (Tampa): Tennesee (-3.5) vs. Wisconsin-
Tenn played great down the stretch (5 in a row) before stumbling 21-14 against LSU. Wisconsin has relied on home field (7-0), but was only 2-3 outside Madison.

1/1/08- Cotton Bowl (Dallas): Missouri (-3) vs. Arkansas-
The game is in Big 12 Country. Ark canned its coach and controversly stole Bobby Petrino from the Atlanta Falcons. Karma is a boomerang. Mizzou should be out to prove they belonged in a BCS game.

1/1/08- Capital One Bowl (Orlando): Florida (-10) vs. Michigan-
Florida has a home field advantage in every bowl game because Gator nation is enormous. Mich is too busy looking for a coach to focus on the game.

1/1/08- Gator Bowl (Jacksonville): Texas Tech (-6) vs. Virginia
Virginia (9-3) had 3 one point wins and 2 two point wins. That's how close they were to being a 4-8 team. Tech can score a ton of points and they have been more relaxed since Dennis Franchione resigned. They will send him out with a victory.

1/1/08- Rose Bowl (Pasadena) USC (-13.5) vs. Illinois-
Ill hasnt been to a bowl game in 6 years. USC is playing it's best football right now and they're healthy. There will be plenty of Trojan faithful in attendance too.

1/1/08- Sugar Bowl (New Orleans): Georgia (-9) vs. Hawaii-
Georgia has a solid running game and they are aware that Boise beat OK last year. They will not take Hawaii lightly. Georgia has won 6 in a row and is 4-0 against ranked teams. Hawaii will score, but they haven't beat anyone other than Boise.

1/2/08- Fiesta Bowl (Glendale, Az): Oklahoma (-6.5) vs. West Virginia
Tough call. Both teams have faired well in their bowl games. Expect the OK defense to give Pat White problems. Rich Rodriguez's flirtation with Michigan won't help things.

1/3/08- Orange Bowl (Miami): Virginia Tech (-3) vs. Kansas-
Kansas played a light schedule and they haven't seen the type of defense and special teams that Tech plays.

1/5/08- International Bowl (Toronto): Ball St. (+10) vs. Rutgers-
Why do they put these two extra games in between the BCS games and the title game? How do you go from OK-West Virginia and watch Ball St.? In Toronto! Ball St. has gone 7-1 ATS in their last 8 out of conference. The easy pick is Rutgers. The right pick is Ball St.

1/6/08- GMAC Bowl (Mobile, Ala): Bowling Green (+4.5) vs. Tulsa
BG has cashed 4 in a row and Tulsa is favored despite coming from CUSA

1/7/08- BCS Championship (New Orleans): LSU (-4.5) vs. Ohio St.
The big one. It should be fairly low scoring with lots of running from both teams. I don't think OSU even deserves to be in this game since they couldn't beat Illinois at home and haven't had a huge win all year. I will take the athletes on LSU.

Week 15 Picks

Hou (+2.5) v. Den- The line has moved over 4 points because everyone is betting on Denver. Trust me, that is a mistake. Denver can't be trusted especially after won of their good games (last week @ KC). Houston might be the better team and they have home field. Gary Kubiak (Hou head coach) was on ShanaRat's staff, so he knows Den well.

SF (+8) vs. Cincy- Coin flip. Cincy struggled against Brock Berlin and the Rams. SF struggles against everyone. I guess I'll take the points and the home field.

NO (-3.5) vs. Az- NO plays well when Brees plays well. He looked solid last week and I don't see the Cards D giving him a lot of problems. Love this game.

Atl (+12.5) @ TB- Tough week for the Falcons. After Vick got sentenced, they got embarrassed on Mon nite and then coach Bobby Petrino jumped ship. The Falcons will play hard for interim coach Emmitt Thomas. They didn't like Petrino before he left and now they hate him. They will be playing to show Petrino up and possibly to make a pitch for Thomas to be the coach in 08.

Mia (+3.5) vs. Balt- Should be raining in Miami. Cleo Lemon gets the start. The Ravens have nothing to play for while the Dolphins are trying to avoid making some forgettable history.

NY Jets (+21.5) @ NE- I know, I know- Spygate! Well, there's supposed to be snow and winds of up to 40 mph. Crappy conditions help crappy teams-remember Steelers-Dolphins and Giants-Dolphins? Well, three touchdowns is too much to pass up in this weather.

Sea (-7.5) @ Caro- I really wanted to talk myself into Carolina because Sea just seems too obvious. The Panthers are 1-5 at home with all 5 losses by at least 7. Ironically, Caro is 3-0 against the NFC West. Sea has won 5 in a row.

Ten (-4) @ KC- The Chiefs just aren't good. The Titans let one slip away against SD last week. They can't afford another loss if they want to get into the playoffs and a possible rematch with SD.

Pitt (-3) vs. Jax- The best matchup of the week. Until the Steelers lose at home, I'm not picking against them.

STL (+8.5) vs. GB- Bulger returns for the Rams so I'll take the points. Very risky though.

Buf (+5.5) @ Cle- This one will be a battle and I see it being decided by a FG. Two teams that surprised everyone gunning for a playoff spot.

SD (-10.5) vs. Det- Jon Kitna said it felt like the Lions had "their hearts ripped out of their chest" after the loss to Dallas. Bells and whistles should start going off. Now, they have to fly cross country and play a team trying to clinch the AFC West despite Norv Turner.

Ind (-10.5) @ Oak- Could be surprisingly close. But the way Indy looked in Balt, those 10 points could be gone within 5 minutes. I'll go with Peyton.

Dal (-10) @ Phi- The Boys dominated in Philly, so there's no reason they shouldn't dominate the Eagles at home. Philly is done after last week's loss to the Giants. The Cowboys came out flat last week, so don't expect tthat to happen two weeks in a row.

NYG (-4.5) vs. Wash- The Skins emotional high should be over by now. The Giants played well for 5 straight quarters which is alarming, but they'll be up for this rivalry game. Todd Collins goes for the Skins. The Giants pass rush should pressure him into some TOs.

Chi (+10) @ Minn- Chi can beat Minnesota which tells me 10 is too high. Grossman is done for the year, so the Bears have some certainty at the QB position.

Users Everywhere

The Mitchell investigation is reportedly going to be producing a list of 60-80 current and former players that were found to have used steroids or HGH. This is my list (which includes guys who will never be "caught" which I can do since I have no editor or affiliation of any kind).

1. Manny Alexander (IF)- Police found steroids and syringes in his car which was being driven by the team bat boy.
2. Carlos Almanzar (P)- Suspended by MLB.
3. Wilson Alvarez (SP)- Canseco says he injected the chubby southpaw.
4. Rick Ankiel (SP/OF)- Received HGH- use not proven.
5. David Bell (3B)- Says HGH was for medical condition.
6. Marvin Bernard(OF)- Named in BALCO investigation,
7. Rafael Betancourt (RP)-Suspended by MLB. Denies use.
8. Barry Bonds (OF)- Knowingly or not, the photos and the numbers don't lie.
9. Bret Boone (2B)- Canseco says it was obvious. The numbers certainly back that up.
10. Paul Byrd (SP)- Odd timing having it leaked on the night of his biggest career start. Byrd claims it was medicinal HGH (like Ricky Williams' marijuana).
11. Ken Caminiti (3B)- Former MVP and admitted user, Caminiti has since passed away.
12. Jose Canseco(OF)- Who knew he would be a whistle blower?
13. Ozzie Canseco (OF)- Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Jose says Ozzie was a user too.
14. Paxton Crawford (SP)- Admitted use to ESPN.
15. Lenny Dykstra (OF)- Named by former business partner.
16. Bobby Estellela (C)- Admitted use during BALCO testimony.
17. Chuck Finley (SP)- Ex-wife said she saw him inject himself.
18. Ryan Franklin (SP/RP)- Caught by MLB, blamed it on a flaw in the system.
19. Jason Giambi (1B)- He can't actually say the words, but he pretty much admitted it.
20. Jeremy Giambi (1B)- Admitted use during BALCO hearing.
21. Jay Gibbons (OF)- Caught, suspended and not appealing.
22. Troy Glaus (3B)- Named by Sports Illustrated.
23. Juan Gonzalez (OF)- Former Canseco teammate. They once discovered a bag belonging to him with siringes and needles
24. Jason Grimsley (RP)- Mediocre reliever, mediocre snitch.
25. Jose Guillen (OF)- Signed 2 yr., 24 mill$ contract the day before he got suspended. He is appealing.
26. Jerry Hairston (IF)- Named by Sports Illustrated.
27. Felix Heredia (RP)- Suspended by MLB.
28. Dave Hollins (3B)- Named by former bodybuilder.
29. Darren Holmes- Says HGH was unsolicited and denies use.
30. Tom House (P)- Admitted use while playing in the 70s.
31. Yusaku Iriki - Suspended by MLB.
32. Ryan Jorgenson- Suspended by MLB.
33. Wally Joyner (1B)- Former Padre admits trying it for two weeks and then stopping.
34. Matt Lawton (OF)- Caught, suspended and admitted he did it.
35. Jim Leyritz (C)- Used HGH to recover from injury.
36. Dave Martinez- Another former player named by Canseco.
37. Gary Matthews Jr (OF)- Named by the Albany (NY) DA.
38. Mark McGwire (1B)- Andro proponent has disappeared. No proof, just allegations.
39. Agustin Montero- Suspended by MLB.
40. Mike Morse (SS)- Caught, suspended & admitted use.
41. Guillermo Mota (RP)- Caught, suspended and rewarded with a two year contract by the Mets.
42. Rafael Palmeiro (1B/OF)- Caught & suspended, but the former Viagra spokesman denies using performance enhancing drugs.
43. Neifi Perez (SS)- Caught not once, but twice.
44. Jorge Piedra (P)- Suspended by MLB.
45. Ricardo Rincon (RP)- Caught, suspended.
46. Armando Rios (SP)- Admitted during Balco grand jury hearings.
47. Brian Roberts (2B)- Named as part of the Grimsley investigation.
48. John Rocker (SP)- Admitted using over the counter HGH.
49. Pudge Rodriguez (C)- Named by Canseco. Just a hunch that he will be on Mitchell's list.
50. Juan Salas- Suspended by MLB.
51. Alex Sanchez (OF)- Caught & suspended.
52. Benito Santiago (C)- Another BALCO grand jury admission.
53. Tony Saunders (SP)- Most often remembered for breaking his arm throwing a pitch, Canseco named him too.
54. Scott Schoenweis (RP)- Named by SI. Terrible with or without performance enhancers.
55. David Segui (1B)- Use was legal and he has appeared on ESPN to defend said use.
56. Dan Serafini- Suspended by MLB.
57. Gary Sheffield (OF)- Bonds' former friend "unknowingly" used the cream and the clear.
58. Termell Sledge (OF)- Tested positive before 04 Olympics.
59. Sammy Sosa (OF)- Former teammate Turk Wendell says it was obvious and I agree. No proof though.
60. Jamal Strong- Suspended by MLB.
61. Miguel Tejada (SS)- Named by Canseco, Palmeiro and possibly Grimsley.
62. Derek Turnbow (RP)- Tested positive while trying to play for USA baseball.
63. Matt Williams (3B)- Claims it was for an ankle injury.
64. Ismael Valdez (RP)- Do you really care about Ismael Valdez? If you do, he reportedly got his perscription from the same dentist as Paul Byrd.
65. Randy Velarde(IF)- One of the original players named in the BALCO investigation.

Pure Speculation- these are some guys that I think used based on appearance, innuendo or results:
66. Brady Anderson -put up a monster year out of nowhere and then fell off the face of the earth.
67. Roger Cedeno- Was a speed demon with the Mets, then he got huge and was lousy afterwards.
68. Brad Fulmer- The biggest forearms I have ever seen.
69. Marcus Giles- Diminutive 2B lost a lot of muscle, power and stats after HGH was banned.
70. Frank Thomas- Doubt the Big Hurt got that big without a little help.

I'm sure there are others at all levels, but expect to see many of the names on the Mitchell list on this one. I know Pettitte and Clemens came up in the Grimsley investigation, but I think he said that they didn't use.

Bad Coaching Eveywhere

A head coaching job is one of the most prestigous jobs in the country. So why are their so many incompetent ones? There are only 32 in the NFL, 30 in MLB, 30 in the NBA, and 30 in the NHL (for a total of 122). Out of the millions in the country, only 122 have the honor. So why are we continually watching poor play calling, clock management, timeout use and player control. Here are some of the worst.

1. Isaiah Thomas (NY Knicks)- No explanation necessary.

2. Norv Turner (SD Chargers)- Everyone is back from a 14-2 team. LT, Gates, Cromartie, Merriman, etc. Norv finds ways to lose whenever the game is close and frustrates his players in the process. He went 49-59-1 with the Skins where he made the playoffs once and lost in the second round. He then went 9-23 with Oak before taking over Marty Schottenheimer's team this season.
http://www.firenorv.net/

3. Herm Edwards (KC Chiefs)- "You play to win the game!" Well, Herm hasnt so much done that lately. This is a man who hired a clock management specialist because he can't manage the clock. Are you kidding? If you can't operate a motor vehicle, you shouldn't be a cab driver! Herm was 39-41 with the Jets and is 13-15 with the Chiefs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMk5sMHj58I

4. John Gibbons (Toronto Blue Jays)- A former catcher who is every bit the meat head. Gibbons has gotten into actual fights with several players on the way to his career 270-265 record. The Blue Jays haven't been to the playoffs under Gibbons who is likely entering his last season as their manager.

5. Bob Geren (Oakland A's)- Like Art Howe, your not always certain he's awake. In his first year, the A's finished 76-86, their first losing season since 1998. He appears to lack control over the pretty boys in Oakland.

6. Fredi Gonzalez (Florida Marlins)- Probably the worst manager in baseball. Has no idea how to manage his rotation and some of his guys (Hanley Ramirez and Miguel Cabrera) seemed to stop playing hard last season. Solid 71-91 in his first season. Next year will be his last.

7. Scott Linehan (St. Louis Rams)- Stephen Jackson, Torry Holt, Mark Bulger, Isaac Bruce and Leonard Little. Somehow Scottie boy is 11-17 with that group. The Rams faithful have started a group called SLOP (Scott Linehan Opposition Party).

8. Mike Woodson (Atlanta Hawks)- Hard to say anything positive about 69-177 and three last place finishes. When is the last time the Hawks were on National TV?

9. Doc Rivers (Boston Celtics)- I know the Celtics are the force in the east this year, but I assure you that this is the man that can stop it. Doc is 0-4 lifetime in 4 playoff appearances. He has missed the playoffs 3 other times. He cannot manage a bench and he panics in tight games.

10. Marvin Lewis- Actually a halfway-decent game coach, but the arrests and suspensions are ridiculous. So much talent being wasted in Cincinatti. The Bengales are the team most likely to make you laugh out loud each week.

With the worst, you have to mention the best: Bill Belicheck, Jeff Fisher, Tony Dungy, Eric Wedge, Mike Scoscia, Bruce Bochy, Gregg Popovich, Phil Jackson and Pat Riley.

Week 14 Picks

Wash (-3) vs. Chi- Skins are still playing for Taylor and they would've won last week if Joe Gibbs wasn't treapped in 1988. The Bears found a way to lose to a Giants team that did NOTHING for 3 quarters at Soldier Field last week. Sexy Rexy is at the healm too.

Jax (-10.5) vs Caro- Vinny T. is at the helm. Beware the trap game for Jax (in between Indy and Pitt), but I'm just not taking Vinny against any teams with more than 4 wins.

Det (+10.5) vs. Dal- Double digit points for a home team is tough to turn down. The Cowboys may come out flat after the look layoff and a big win vs. GB. The Lions are playing for their season. Should be competitive

Buf (-7) vs. Mia- The Dolphins hadn't quit all year until the second half against the J-E-T-S. They should play with some pride against the Bills who always find a way to make things interesting. Still, we have a warm weather team headed to a cold weather stadium. They are on their 3rd RB and 3rd QB. John Beck had two games where the offense didnt score followed by a bucket of TOs last week.

Phi (-2.5) vs. NYG- McNabb returns and this is the Eagles last stand. The Giants simply cant stop Westbrook and Eli continues to look lost. The Giants may take a breath as it looks like they are headed for the 5 seed in the playoffs.

Oak (+10.5) @ GB- Oak has been strangely competitive on the road this season. GB has played a lot of tight games too and Favre is banged up but will be in there.

NE (-10.5) vs. Pit- The Pats have shown some chinks in the armor, but its time to re-establish the dominance. The Steelers have struggled on the road with three losses against sub-.500 teams. No Troy Polamalu either.

Ten (+1) vs. SD- Jeff Fisher vs. Norv Turner and home field advantage!

Cin (-9.5) vs. STL- The Brock Berlin error begins for the Rams. The Bengals are about to go on a tear that has everyone picking them as a 2008 sleeper. Plus, Palmer and Ocho Cinco love padding their stats.

TB (-3) @ Hou- Jeff Garcia is in which is good for TB. Sage Rosenfels is in which is good for Houston. The Bucs are pretty reliable because they play solid D and dont turn the rock over. They've cashed 4 in a row.

Az (+7) @ Sea- Don't trust Seattle-ever! The Cards won the first matchup and are showing some promise for the first time since the days of Jake the Snake.

SF (+8.5) vs. Minn- The Niners scratch and claw. They will load up to stop Peterson and if the offense can get two TDs, they will cover the number. The Vikes also have the Bears on tap next week- classic look ahead.

Cle (-3.5) @ NYJ- Talked myself into the Jets one too many times this season. The Browns will score on the Jets D and they have played well pretty much anywhere this season.

Den (-6.5) vs. KC- Uggh! Two unreliables. Brody Croyle is back though and I will take ShanaRat over Herm in Mile High.

Ind (-9.5) @ Balt- The Ravens are still whining about last week's officiating even though that was clearly a hold on Bart Scott. Could definitely see the Ravens mailing this one in as an FU to the NFL. Marvin Harrison is out again and my guess is we dont see him again until the playoffs.

Atl (+3.5) vs. NO- Another terrible monday nite game on ESPN. No Reggie Bush for Drew Brees who is now down to Colston as his only weapon. The Falcons battle and the underdog has covered 15 of 23 between these two.

Quotable Isaiah

Is there anyone in the world worse at their job than Isaiah Thomas? Britney's publicist? Lou Holtz's speech therapist? Anyway, here are some of the statements Isaiah has made this season. From the man who has ruined the CBA and the New York Knicks:

"I am innocent of these charges. I am very innocent of these charges."- After a jury found he had sexually harrassed a very unsexually harrassable woman. Very innocent is like triple infinity. You can only be innocent. Sorry genius.

10/24/07: "I think our team is coming together very nicely." After 10/24/07 preseason win.
11/2/07: "Overall I was pleased with our effort" After 110-106 loss to Cavs. Record= 0-1
11/4/07: "They were very supportive and they wanted to see a good basketball and I thought they saw one" About the fans (who booed him during introductions) after 4 point win over mighty Minnesota. Record= 1-1
11/6/07: "Our whole team, I liked the tenacity that we played with". After 119-112 win against Den (the high water mark of the season. Record= 2-1
11/9/07: "We weren't patient enough to continue to pound the ball inside". Loss to Magic 112-102. Rec=2-2
11/11/07: 75-72 loss to Miami rec= 2-3
11/14/07- "Even with your full team and your best team its still hard to come into this building against this team and get a win" Making excuses after Marbury goes AWOL before 113-102 loss to Phoenix. Rec= 2-4
11/15/07: "I've played with people I don't like and I've won with people I don't like". About Marbury after non-triumphant return in 84-81 loss to the Clippers. Rec= 2-5
11/17/07: "We were in foul trouble most of the night and wanted to try to speed the game and the pace up a little bit". After 123-118 loss to Sac. Rec= 2-6
11/18/07: "Sometimes the schedule beats you". Following 115-83 loss to Denver. Sometimes the schedule beats you by 32. Rec= 2-7
11/20/07: "They were right. What they saw tonight, if I had paid money to see this game I'd be upset also. This is New York, and when your playing well you get cheered, and you play this poorly you get booed and there's a lot of venom that comes at you". After 108-82 home loss to Golden State. Rec= 2-8
11/21/07: "This is about me doing a better job". Finally taking some blame after 98-86 loss to Det. Rec= 2-9
11/24/07: "Its either love or hate and your either dead or alive. And today, we're alive and we're loved. Yes your loved after a 7 point win over a 2-9 team improves your record to an outstanding 3-9.
11/26/07: "Overall a good team effort. But number 3 was really good tonight". After 113-109 win vs. Utah. Zach Randolph said "We feel like we can beat anybody". Thrilling 2 game win streak runs record to 4-9. Watch out Celtics that's Isaiah nipping at your heels.
11/29/07: "We take two steps forward and one giant step back....This was just not a good night". The understatement of the century after 104-59 loss to Boston that wasn't even that close. Rec= 4-10
11/30/07: "Every time you lose a game in New York you're on death row here. So tonight they unstrapped the belts and I get to walk". About the demanding fans after 91-88 win over Milw. runs the team with leagues highest payroll to 5-10.
12/02/07: "You guys pay more attention to that stuff than I do" Pretending not to notice that Jimmy Dolan wasnt in attendance for the 115-104 loss to Phoenix. Rec = 5-11
12/05/07- "I guess we were due" after 100-93 win over the Jason Kidd-less Nets runs record to 6-11.
12/07/07- lost 101-90 to Sixers. Rec= 6-12
12/08/07- "I was searching tonight. I went one through twelve just trying to find any combination that would work, any person that had any type of energy or fire. And there was nothing there tonight". After 105-77 home loss to the Sixers. Rec = 6-13
12/10/07- After receiving vote of confidence from Jimmy D., Isaiah says "It's good to have the support of your boss. We have to put it in perspective when you look at our conference. There's a lot of teams with 10 to 13 losses". Well then, the Knicks are right on track-thanks Zeke.
12/10/07-"I was just trying to make sure that we kept the team together and we stayed focused on what we're doing and trying to win a basketabll game". After reportedly telling fans behind the bench that his stars need encouragement, not booing during 99-89 loss to Mavericks. Rec= 6-14.
It just never gets old.
12/11/07- "To me, it's win or die and I literally mean death" I'm pretty much speechless. He hasn't died, so I don't understand.
12/12/07- "They've either quit on the season or they just don't know how to win". The first sign of a white flag, a quarter of the way through the season, after 117-110 loss to Seattle. Rec =6-15
12/14/07- "There are certain things he'll probably never be good at doing. He may not ever be a great defender or great rebounder". About Eddy Curry, whom Isaiah gave up two lottery picks for, after 101-96 losss to Chicago. Rec= 6-16

Week 13 Picks

Dallas (-6.5) vs. GB- The biggest game in the NFC this season, but much of the country won't get to watch Greg Gumbel and his Kermit voice butcher the call of the game. Favre has never won at Texas Stadium (0-8) so let it continue. Dallas is the best team in the NFC and they will get to 30 against GB (especially if Charles Woodson doesnt play).

Atl (+3) @ Stl- Joey Harrington is actually the best QB on the field! Gus Frerotte goes for STL, which means I wouldn't take them against a flag football team. STL has lost 5 straight at home. Atl has had 10 days to prepare.

Buf (+5) @ Wash- Not to be insensitive, but if Sean Taylor was my teammate, I wouldnt be ready to play a game on Sunday. How stupid are the guys who killed Taylor? They thought his house was empty! One look at the NFL injury report and they could've figured out that he was inactive last Sunday. Taylor would still be alive and they wouldnt be looking at 20+ years in jail. If your going to commit a crime, do some research first.

Det (+4) @ Minn- Det won this season's first matchup 20-17. The Vikes get Peterson back. These are two teams that have been difficult to read. Detroit seems to struggle against teams that can throw the ball, but the Vikings can't do that. The Vikes secondary was the worst in the league before Eli started hitting them in the numbers- they will revert to form against the explosive Lions. Big day for Roy Williams.

Mia (-1) vs. NYJ- The stinker of the week and maybe the season! How is an 0-11 team favored? Well, they should be because right now they are playing better football than the Jets. Mia has lost 6 games by 3 points and they played their tail off on Mon nite in Pitt. The Jets barely showed up on national TV at Dallas. John Beck has now played 8 quarters without scoring for the Mia offesnse, but this is the week he gets into the end zone.

Phi (+3) vs. Sea- Sea still stinks on the road and would've lost @ STL if Gusto Frerotte could execute the center-QB exchange. Shaun Alexander returns, but he has been average at best this season. A.J. Feeley goes for Philly-he looked pretty good against NE and a healthy Brian Westbrook means good things for the Eagles.

Caro (-3) vs. SF- Just disgusting. Not expecting SF to win 2 in a row, but dont have much faith in Carolina either. A lot of punts expected.

NO (-3) vs. TB- Another tough call. Garcia is banged up and if he can't go Gradkowski will, which makes this a no-brainer. NO is very up and down. Hopefully, they show up for this one.

Jax (+7) @ Ind- The Colts embarrassed the Jags earlier this season on national TV. The Jags have been playing well since and they usually play the Colts well. The Colts are banged up all over and they haven't been playing well since losing to NE.

Tenn (-3.5) vs. Hou- Tenn needs to bounce back or their season will be over. The Texans have really struggled within the division. In Jeff Fisher we trust!

KC (+4) vs. SD- Chiefs are always tough at arrowhead and SD struggles on the road. Damon Huard goes for KC which is an upgrade over Brody Croyle. The Chargers find ways to make things interesting and Norv can screw this one up.

Cle (+1) @ Az- This year's Az team has played well after losses and they had a bad one last week. Expect a lot of points. Larry Fitzgerald is doubtful. Derek Anderson just wins games, so I'm going with Cleveland.

Den (-3.5) @ Oak- Den still playing for a division title while Oak is playing out the string. Den has dominated this rivalry in the past few years and they played 3 excellent quarters against the Bears last week following a complete game against Ten.

Chi (+1.5) vs. NYG- Eli did his best Rex Grossman last week. The Giants may be headed for their annual collapse. The weather is supposed to be bad and the Giants running game was a non-factor last week without Brandon Jacobs. FYI- Adrian Peterson is better than Cedric Benson, so the Bears have upgraded their run game with Benson out.

Pitt (-7) vs. Cinc- The Steelers bully the Bengals twice each year. The offense should have a strong showing after some tough sleding on Monday. Night games at Pitt are almost an impossible task.

NE (-20) @ Balt- The Ravens dont let their record or the score stand in the way of their trash talking. You'll get to see what happens when you trash talk Brady and Moss.

College football- 12/1/07

Va. Tech (-4.5) vs. BC (@ Jaxsonville)- BC came back from 10 down with 5 minutes to play in Blacksburg for a 14-10 win. For the first 55 minutes of that game, the Hokies defense was dominant. BC has been very average since. The Hokies travel well and should have a slight home field type edge.

Mizzou (+3.5) vs. Oklahoma (@ San Antonio)- Mizzou blew the last game against OK and was playing without its starting RB (Tony Temple). OK is no slouch though- they will score some points and usually perform well in big games. Mizzou has cashed 11 of 13, so I'll just keep taking them.

Navy (-14) vs. Army - Navy has won 5 in a row against Army (by an average of 26. 8 ppg) and covered 8 of 10. Navy has no problem putting up points (24+ in every game), but Army does and they have lost 5 in a row. This is the opposite of Miami and Fla St. These players will some day be united in serving the country. When the Noles and Canes get together, the players will some day be united in serving prison terms and the community.

Oregon (pick 'em) vs. Oregon St- The Ducks have been pathetic without Dennis Dixon. But they were the #2 team in the country and this is senior day. The home team has done well in this matchup (8-2 ATS). Brady Leaf be damned, I'm going with the Ducks.

Arizona (+7) @ Arizona St.- The Sun Devils fade down the stretch every season and this year is no difference. They showed little heart getting walloped by USC with their Pac 10 title hopes on the line. Arizona has been on a roll and Mike Stoops has the program headed in the right direction.

Last Week: 2-3
